Learn To Paint And Draw While Making New Friends
A warm welcome to Seasons Art Class!
We started the first Seasons Art Class in 2009. Back then, we had no idea of how popular our new venture would be and had not anticipated the national demand for our art courses!
Being exceptional was always part of our mission, and not just providing great art tuition. We wanted our students to have a fantastic experience across the board, from making friends to being supported and nurtured during each class. We offer something far bigger than simply teaching people how to draw and paint.
Despite warmth and friendliness being defining characteristics of Seasons, we understand that taking up a new hobby – joining an art class with new people – can be a bit daunting. In this article, we’ll share an insight into what to expect when you learn how to draw and paint with us.
Our Warm And Supportive Environment
Once you’ve decided to learn to paint and draw you’re sure to feel a surge of excitement about embarking on your creative journey. However, joining a beginner’s art class also has the potential to be a little nerve-racking at first.
Feeling anxious ahead of your first lessons in drawing and painting is quite normal but you’ll soon settle in – especially when you have a tea or coffee in your hand that you’re allowed to take to your table!
Here’s what to expect from a Seasons Art Class:
- When you arrive at your class we’ll offer you drinks, biscuits and a chance to chat with your fellow learners.
- Our classes are structured with a demonstration and explanation of the techniques and media and then you’ll be given plenty of time to put into practice what you have learned.
- Halfway through the class, you’ll stop for a break with more refreshments and more chances to chat with others.
- Throughout the session your tutor will provide one-on-one support, should you require a little extra help or guidance.
- Our assistants are on hand to keep you fuelled with drinks and biscuits and topped up with all the art materials you need to get the most from your class.
When you learn how to draw and paint with us, you will have ample opportunities for social interaction with your fellow students. This is particularly welcome for retired attendees or those who’d like to make connections and build friendships with like-minded others.
The experience of being a beginner or improving artist – and the progression you observe in yourself and your classmates – creates a wonderful sense of camaraderie.
As well as feeling supported with your flourishing artistic skills, we’ve created a warm atmosphere where our students can forge new friendships. What’s great is that these friends – with shared interests – often end up spending time together outside of our four walls.
Exploring Your Creativity
If you’ve never tried anything artistic then you may wonder whether you’ll be ‘any good’. In our considerable experience, our students are almost always beyond thrilled by the progress that they make throughout their 14-week course – and even after their first lessons in drawing and painting.
Any educational class that you take as an adult will benefit your personal growth – it’s never too late to learn and grow! And art, in particular, will also gift you with a sense of fulfilment and joy through creative expression.
Quickfire FAQs For First-Time Art Class Attendees
Here’s what you might want to know, before taking your very first lessons in drawing and painting with us:
- What skill level do I need for a Seasons Art Class?
Many prospective students worry about their artistic skill – or lack of experience – and wonder if the class will be suitable for them. Please be reassured that the Seasons Art Class format is designed for beginners and improvers. - What art materials do I need? Are some materials provided?
You don’t need to worry as we supply almost everything you need for your course – art materials are built into the cost. The only thing you need to bring is paper/sketch pad and pencils, or these can be purchased from us for a nominal fee and come in a handy carry case, to be collected in class on the first day. - Will there be homework?
We provide full-colour handouts as a reference for what you have learned in class but ‘homework’ isn’t mandatory. That said, we find that many of our students are so inspired by their new-found skills that they choose to draw or paint in between classes. - Will there be naked life models at any of the lessons?
No – we do not include naked life models in the figurative drawing and/or painting lessons as part of the Seasons curriculum. - I don’t know what to wear to an art class?!
We encourage our students to wear old clothing and shoes that are comfy and allow freedom of movement during the class. If we’re doing something that is potentially messy – like acrylic painting – then opt for clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty or stained.
If you have longer hair, consider tying it back to keep it out of your face (and out of the paint!), and don’t forget your glasses, if you wear them!
Layers are always a good idea, so you can adjust your clothing accordingly. While we keep the venue nice and warm, some students still like to bring a cushion, shawl or blanket for ultimate comfort. We even welcome you to bring your slippers if they’re going to help you settle in and get the most out of your class!
Overall, when it comes to what to wear to an art class, we recommend that you feel comfy so that you can unleash your full creative potential!
